Deloitte's 2026 Gen Z and Millennial Survey: AI Adoption Is Outpacing Organizational Readiness

Deloitte's 15th annual Gen Z and Millennial Survey (22,500+ respondents, 44 countries) finds AI use has gone mainstream — 74% of both Gen Zs and millennials now use AI at work, up sharply from 57%/56% a year ago — with many also using it for learning, career advice, and coping with work stress. But individual adoption is outpacing organizational readiness: roughly 30% say their employer isn't prepared for AI-driven change, over a third don't trust AI outputs, and Deloitte's own 2026 State of AI in the Enterprise report found 84% of companies haven't redesigned jobs around AI capabilities. Separately, the survey finds both generations deprioritizing traditional leadership tracks (only 6% cite it as their top career goal, citing burnout/work-life balance) in favor of continuous skill-building — AI fluency, leadership, and creativity top the list of skills they want to develop next.

Why it matters

The gap between employee AI adoption and organizational readiness — training, trust, and role redesign — is the practical bottleneck leaders should address now; treating AI as a work-redesign and change-management effort (not a tool rollout) is what separates organizations capturing value from those with fragmented experimentation.
