Google's AI & Economy ATLAS Finds Workplace AI Use Is Augmentation, Not Automation
Google's inaugural AI & Economy ATLAS report analyzed 15 million de-identified Gemini interactions across 150 countries, 800 occupations, and 4,000 tasks. It found AI touches 68% of occupations (~90% of US employment) but workers use it for only ~21% of core tasks on average, with just 3% of occupations hitting heavy-use thresholds and 29% showing no meaningful use at all.
