New Frontline Data: Role Clarity Is High, But Managers Are Being Set Up to Fail

A survey of 1,594 frontline workers and managers in retail, grocery, and hospitality finds workers rate role clarity highly (4.68/5), yet 46–52% of managers report new initiatives launch without adequate support, and only 23% of frontline workers believe senior leaders understand day-to-day workplace reality. Manager span of control widened from 10.9 to 12.1 direct reports over the past year, compounding the strain.
