AI Employment Gap for Young Workers Widens to 19%

New ADP payroll analysis (Nov 2022–Jun 2026) finds employment for 22–25-year-olds in highly AI-exposed occupations now runs ~19% below where it would be had it tracked less-exposed peers — up from 15% a year ago. The adjustment is happening through reduced entry-level hiring, not layoffs, and the researchers stress there's no evidence of broad, economy-wide displacement.

Why it matters

Capability builders and hiring managers should treat entry-level pipelines in codified-knowledge occupations as the leading edge of AI's labor effect — the risk shows up as a hiring freeze on juniors, not a layoff wave.
